The Dither Archive is an experimental digital archive composed of over 6,000 dithered gradient images that I originally hosted on Tumblr.com. The original images were originally part of a bot I built while working on the dithering algorithm from this project. The archive is presented as an immersive 3D environment, where users are invited to navigate freely.

While building this archive I decided to sort the images by color using the t-SNE algorithm. This meant that each image was analyzed pixel by pixel and placed within the archive by color similarity. The act of reorganizing the images, made me question the archival process. Specially the act of deciding the order of its content, and consequently the separation imposed to archived material. Within the archive it is possible to encounter NPCs (Non Playable Characters), who shere their own experiences and opinions about being sorted. Through this voices the character also reflect on broader topics of algoruthmic normativity and digital labour.
